Born from Oncology
The Beginning
Henrich founded Neue Cosmetic in Los Angeles, originally focusing on haircare. That same year, both his wife Sarah in LA and a close friend in San Francisco were diagnosed with breast cancer. After radiation, they suffered from severe skin reactions—burns, dryness, itching, and inflammation.
Henrich collaborated with Sarah’s radiation oncologist at Cedars-Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center to develop a healing lotion. The key formula combined bio-activated aloe vera with molecularly modified lanolin—proven to outperform FGF in fibroblast repair.
Following clinical trials and successful recovery, Henrich and Sarah launched the brand Alra—named as a dedication to radiation care.
Coping Magazine
In a feature story about Sarah Ott, Coping Magazine detailed how Alra was born out of personal cancer care:
"Sarah's husband, Henry, a chemical engineer and owner of Neue Cosmetic Co., Inc., welcomed the opportunity to help his wife and her friend. He began to formulate a cream for her skin care that eventually, through cooperation with Sarah's physician Ronald W. Thompson, MD, FACR, Director of Radiation Therapy, Cedars Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center, Los Angeles, CA, became ALRA (for "all radiation") Therapy Lotion. The lotion was distributed to cancer treatment centers, and in 1990, Sarah became manager of "ALRA Oncology Care" and the Neue Medical Products division of their corporation. "
This story highlighted the brand’s deeply personal origins and its founder’s dedication to creating effective solutions during real cancer recovery.
